This month’s National Renaissance Staffulty of the Month is Tiffanie Smith from Heritage High School in Newport News, VA. Her nominator Rodrick Monroe wrote:
This Staffulty member is always trying to change the climate and culture of our school. She incorporates Staffulty breakfasts & dinners, motivational postcards, and theme spirit weeks. She also encourages our staff to positively recognize our students, so they will continue to do good things. Nevertheless, she is constantly working towards her goal of changing our culture and improving the school’s climate.
How long have you been involved with Renaissance?
12 years.
What’s a favorite Renaissance moment for you?
My favorite moment was attending the National Conference (The Jostens Renaissance Global Conference). The entire conference was amazing. Especially the rally where I stood on a chair and danced.
How has Renaissance impacted your school’s culture?
Renaissance has made a huge impact on the culture by bringing about a sense of unity and collaboration among students and staff, fostering a positive and supportive environment for learning. It has also impacted our school culture by promoting inclusivity and diversity.
What’s the best part of being in a Renaissance school?
The best part is being able to provide something for everyone. There were things being done previously and after seeing Renaissance, we simply made adjustments to make it fun and inviting.
How has Renaissance affected you personally?
It has been rewarding to me because I get to make others happy. Small random acts of kindness can go a long way. I am able to reach students that I do not teach and build a relationship with them. I have also been able to introduce the program to the District Youth Development team.
What advice would you give to someone just starting with Renaissance?
Take one step at a time and use the resources that are available. Do not try to do everything at once. Most important thing is to ensure that you are ready to have FUN!
