School Culture and Climate Lesson Plans

Most traditional leadership curriculums allow students to explore leadership concepts in a traditional classroom setting.

The Jostens Leadership Curriculum agrees that is important to building an awareness around leadership, but thinks it is necessary for students to put those leadership concepts into practice in a manner that positively affects the culture and climate of their school. Without the direct tie between the classroom and the culture of the school, leadership is just a topic. It is time for student leaders to be just that – leaders affecting their school environment for the better.

This unit allows students to explore how school culture affects academic success, student involvement, campus appearance, and school spirit and how student leadership is integral to positively affecting school culture.

Lessons on school culture can be taught as stand-alone topics or can be used in a traditional unit format with one topic leading into the next. By clicking on a lesson below, you will be able to view a short description of the content as well as necessary materials or preparation needed to deliver that content. You will also be able to download the lesson in its entirety and any ancillary instructional materials.

When taught in its entirety, this unit’s lessons build student capacity in the following areas:

  • Understand the difference between culture and climate, and how they work together to represent and impact the school community.
  • Explore the interconnectedness of culture and climate, leadership, and Jostens Renaissance.
